WarningReview status

Why your Shopify products are "Pending" in Merchant Center

The error

pending_initial_policy_review

What it means

Your products are not disapproved; they are waiting for Google's first policy review. The status Pending (status pending_initial_policy_review) means Google has received the items but has not finished reviewing them yet. While pending, products generally do not serve, but no fix is required, the wait itself usually clears it. Initial review for Shopping ads typically takes about three to five business days; free listings and some other features can take longer (up to a few weeks).

Why it happens on Shopify

This is normal the first time a Shopify store syncs through the Google & YouTube app, or after a significant catalog change. New stores and new accounts can sit in the review queue longer because Google has no history with them. It is not an error, and repeatedly re-syncing or re-submitting does not speed it up.

How to fix it

  1. Wait it out: products for Shopping ads usually clear within about three to five business days of the first sync; free listings may take longer.
  2. While you wait, make sure the storefront is complete (policies, contact info, no placeholder text) so the review does not flip into a Misrepresentation suspension.
  3. Confirm your products have no other warnings (return policy, shipping, identifiers) so they serve the moment review finishes.
  4. Avoid deleting and re-adding products or disconnecting the app, which can restart the clock.

If items stay pending well beyond the usual window, check the account-level Misrepresentation and policy sections; a stuck review is sometimes an unflagged account issue.
